Young Yarning Pty Ltd

Supporting
Youth Through Challenging Times

Young Yarning is a Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Mentoring Social Enterprise Service aimed at youth in the Northern Territory.

It has been developed on the foundations of the national Social and Emotional Wellbeing framework and principles primarily to support young First Nations people and all young people within the community, who are experiencing challenging and complex mental health concerns and personal difficulties.

Young Yarning has been developed through culturally informed and strength-based practices, as well as through extensive experience and knowledge in delivering Social and Emotional Wellbeing support services through a primary healthcare service, providing holistic support in both a clinical setting and community outreach setting.

About Me

My name is Addy and I am a proud Aboriginal man who grew up in the Northern Territory, both in Alice Springs and Darwin. My First Nations heritage and roots come from the Yawuru people of Broome and spread through Western Australia and the Northern Territory through my mother’s side.

I founded Young Yarning with a clear vision in mind: to support the mental health and wellbeing and enhance the lives of our Youth within the Territory and beyond.

The program and service development at Young Yarning is guided by extensive experience within youth and adult justice systems, studies in Psychology, Counselling, Trauma and Other Mental health related areas as well as previous roles held in social and emotional wellbeing work within a youth mental health service.

I currently work as a firefighter, where I have a unique opportunity to support the community within that work and the flexibility to pursue what is called “Young Yarning”.
